W0EEA Skeds
I have been receiving numerous sked requests, mostly from other users of eQSL.
I have been spending a great deal of time on K3UK's LoTW Sked Page of late. Those wishing to work me
should log in there and see if I am around. I have been on there enough to earn ARRL LoTW Triple Play
Award numbet 360. I have juat confirmed 100 countries on LoTW and applied for my DXCC. I am working on DXCC totals at this time.
I'll be on for most of ARRL and CQ's contests and as many others as I can manage.
LoTW QSLing
Some people are still sending LoTW verifications missing vital information.
If you might be one of them open the TQSL program and edit the location you usually use to sign verifications.
If you are missing your state, county, grid, and/or zones please enter them.
Digital Modes
I've been operating some of the digital modes often lately. There seem to be some operators who are confused
about the procedures for JT65. The JT65-HF program is much easier for operators new to the mode as it will send
the proper messages for you if you double click on the last received message from whoever you are working.
Try not to use the two tone 73 and R messages as JT65-HF does not usually decode them properly and they
will confuse operators using JT65-HF.
If you insist on using WSJT here is a full QSO:
1st Stn: CQ 1stCALL 1stGRID
2nd Stn: 1stCALL 2ndCALL 2ndGRID
1st Stn: 2ndCALL 1stCALL SigRpt
2nd Stn: 1stCALL 2ndCALL RSigRpt (The R acknowledges receiving both grid and report from Stn 1.)
1st Stn: 2ndCALL 1stCALL RRR (The Rs acknowledge receiving grid, report, and the R from Stn 2.)
(If you don't send a grid and a signal report don't be surprised if I don't QSL.)
2nd Stn: (Some kind of 73 message) 1stCALL 2ndCALL 73 or 20W ANT TU 73
1st Stn: Some kind of 73 message) 2ndCALL 1stCALL 73 or 30WRW LoTW 73
2nd Stn: Remember to turn your transmitter off.
1st Stn: CQ again
If you receive a transmission more than once the other station DID NOT HEAR YOUR REPLY. Back up and send it again.
Nothing sounds stranger than a JT65 pileup. If a CQ gets more than one answer, remember the CQing station
has no control over which station, if any, the program decodes.
W0EEA operating Field Day 2006 class 2E
Using the battery stack configured as four 12V 1000 AH batteries.
The top battery powered an inverter for room lights, computers, rotors, etc.
The middle two each powered an Icom IC-756 ProIII. The bottom 12V section was held as a spare.
The spare was not needed. We checked the batteries every few hours and found that we could have
operated in the manner we did this weekend for several more days before we came anywhere near the battery's limits.
.
This picture with the camera's flash on shows more detail on the battery stack.
It feels very strange and quiet to be operating in there with almost everything turned off.
Usually there are many fans in the power amps running all the time but not during Field Day.
.
For this Field Day the antennas we used were all dipoles. We checked 6M once in a while
but it never really opened well while we were listening so we never needed the rotors.
We have permits to build five towers, but are still waiting for the base plates and anchors to arrive.
